Bonnie Schneider
After graduating from an Bachelor of Music program (Boston University 1963) however, after witnessing the liberal arts in my teaching career (Brown University 1971-75), I am an advocate for education that incorporates studies in the arts along with studies in many other fields. This is not a surprise since an ethnomusicologist who has a PhD and MA from UCLA is enthusiastic about the arts. It is not surprising that the department of ethnomusicology is located at UC Berkeley, where I taught from 1975 until 1976 is part of the college of letters and Science's department of music. Being able to explore multiple areas of interest is something that I truly enjoy. Undergraduates as well as graduate students (for who I've written three texts - Music in India, The Classical Traditions of India, Thinking Musically: Music in Japan - Experience Music: Expressing Cultural Expression) are enthused by my teaching. I also have times where I am mainly a Professor, as well as other time periods in which I do administrative work (such as being Chair of Department of Music, 1983-1988 and Dean of Undergraduate Advising between 1992 and 1998, and Director of Deans in the College of Letters and Science from 1994 to 1998).
